Yesterday, Lakeshore had the honor of attending the fifth annual Dossie Wheatley Memorial Golf Tournament. The late Rev. Dossie Wheatley was a Methodist minister who loved his church, Lakeshore and golf. Each year, his wife Nancy (pictured above) gathers his closest friends, retired clergy and family to celebrate his memory at one of his favorite places, the golf course.
It was a great day to remember Dossie and enjoy fellowship with each other. Between the registration fees and donations by friends unable to attend, the tournament raised nearly $1,000 and generously kicks off our 2018 Campership Drive. During his life, Dossie was the director of 5th and 6th grade camps at Lakeshore, so it is truly fitting that the proceeds of this tournament go to support camperships for future campers.
Thank you to all the participants and donors who supported this event and will create life-changing opportunities for campers who would otherwise be unable to attend Lakeshore!
This summer, Lakeshore awarded nearly 250 camperships so that children would have the opportunity to experience life, love and the God of grace, regardless of their parents’ ability to pay because we believe in the power of camping ministry to change lives, call people to ministry, and deepen relationships with God.
And so did Dossie.
If you would like to honor the memory of Dossie or further support Lakeshore’s ministry, please consider a donation to the campership fund.
