My daughter first went to Lakeshore 4 years ago, as she was sponsored by co-workers of mine who are avid donors to the Campership Fund and always go above and beyond in any way they can for their community and its children. I will forever be grateful to them as I would not have known about such an opportunity being available if not for them.
She was only six years at the time, and I was a tad worried she might not stay the entire time. Boy was I wrong… She absolutely had the BEST time ever! She LOVES to sing and dance, and they sure have a LOT of that out there during their worship services. (My mini is a bundle of energy!) This program allows her to go and express herself in a positive way. To learn to carry herself and grow mentally and emotionally. She learns to be a team player during group activities. She gets to meet kids from different states and learn about where they are from (she loves that). And in a world that is so fast moving and forcing our children to have to grow up faster and be smarter sooner and get ready for the real world far earlier than when I was growing up, it allows her to JUST BE A KID for a week! And most of all she learns about God and all the blessings He bestows on us.
One blessing for me personally is that I can afford to send her to camp with the assistance of the Campership program. I have been a single mother her entire life and haven’t ever had less than two jobs to support her. I have never qualified for any kind of assistance to help her needs until this program. I did not get to go to camp growing up and I love being able to send her thanks to this great program. I get to pull extra hours while she is gone and not feel guilty about it all while she is being a kid in a safe environment and living her “best life” as she calls it.
It makes me proud to be able to provide things of enjoyment for her. And the stories I hear when I pick her up and the laughter she has when telling me about friends and what this year’s worship services were like, I know it is the right choice to have sent her to Lakeshore over anywhere else. So, with that being said, thank you to all of you who make it possible for my mini to have this amazing opportunity and for donating to allow other children such as mine to be able to share in this wonderful place.
